About the Artist

About Susan White
From childhood onwards, I have felt the need to create art. When not drawing, I was exploring and observing the natural world around me in rural Manitoba. I now reside on Vancouver Island, where I am daily presented with breathtaking views and surrounded by wildlife and plant life.
My creative inspiration leads to the portrayal of wildlife and botanical subjects. Lately I have been challenged and inspired by painting landscapes. I am attracted to "ordinary scenes", and attempt to paint them to make them extraordinary. I am always trying to capture light and shadow in my subjects. Not always successfully, but the joy is in trying!
I have been inspired of late to explore the world of mixed media and collage. I have been creating hand painted and mono printed papers. These papers are hand torn and arranged onto canvas or cradled wood panels to portray my favourite subjects.
I am a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, with Signature Membership status (SFCA). I am a member of Pastel Artists Canada, with Master Pastellist Signature Designation (MPAC).
